Food!

This is a big topic in our house right now. Amelia seems to be not wanting anything to do with her jarred food....or even with the food I make that we have to feed her with a spoon. I know she likes cheese, and I know she likes noodles, so I made a kid version of mac n' cheese last night. Nope. Didn't want anything to do with it. So she got some cut up gelbwurst (bologna) and cheese. Oh, and let's not forget blueberries! She is madly in love with blueberries.

I'm thinking that this pickiness has more to do with feeding herself. This is big. However, I did try letting her eat the mac n' cheese with her hands...nope, she had her eyes on the blueberries and that is all that she wanted. So, I am trying to stick to things that she can eat with her hands.

Here is a list of what I have tried that she is totally in to, and some she's not so hot on:

Cooked Carrots...most of the time
Gelbwurst (bologna)
black beans
rice
noodles
blueberries
raspberries
CHEESE!
strawberries
salmon
peas...sometimes
apricots
soft pretzels
bread
bananas
red currants...the more sour, the better
potato dumplings (knoedel)
weisswurst (thanks to Oma)
peaches
egg yolk

I'm sure there a couple more on there, but this is what I can think of off the top of my head.

What have you given your kids at this age to eat as finger foods?

Cheese!!!

I have a little cheese lover on my hands. Well, to be more exact, a Baby Bell lover. She sees the package and she freaks out. Last night, she ate real good. She ate almost a whole 220 gram jar of food, then a big slice of gelbwurst (bologna), then she got the cheese. She almost ate the whole thing, but I think she must have been absolutely stuffed after all the other stuff. Oh, and thank you Grandpa for the Texas Tough shirt. It is way too cute!

Amelia's first Knoedel

This past weekend, Oma made knoedel (potato dumplings, Bavarian style) so that Amelia could have her very first one...Amelia LOVED it. I know that I have to order her when we go out now...

First bite...

"Hmmmm...do I like it....hmmmm...."
"Yes I do! More! More! More!"

I know...it's been a while

I've been meaning to put up a few blog entries in the past week or so, but seriously, I just haven't gotten around to it. I haven't really been doing too much. Charlie was here all last week (and today he's at the in-laws, so I have a bit more time) but that isn't really an excuse since we go on just an hour walk in the afternoon. So, just call me lazy.

However, today, when catching up on reading some other expat blogs, I came across one of the funniest things that I have read in a long, long time. I was actually crying. It comes from 50% of my DNA who actually got it from CN Heidelberg. So, it's been around in the expat community for a bit, but I just got around to reading it.

Now, you don't want to be eating lunch while reading this, but seriously, don't be too grossed out because it is just too funny of a story. And it also makes me think that this is why Germans cook all meat until it is roughly resembles jerky.

Funny, yet gross, story....Enjoy :)
