The most awesome nose sucker

Yes, that is right. This post is about a snot sucker. The most awesome snot sucker that is.

Amelia is suffering from pretty bad sniffles. Poor thing can't sleep too well since she can't really breathe. She keeps waking herself up. Not good for her...not good for mommy. I am planning on making this essential oil mix that should help with the cough and the sniffles from No Ordinary Homestead, but i just ordered the oils, so it will take a day or two to get here. In the mean time I needed a quick fix. THIS* is what I got from the Apotheke today. It is the Medinaris Nasensauger-Staubsauger. (*The website is only in German, but there are pictures of the thing.)

I let Amelia play with it a bit before I suck out her nose. She chews on it, which I pretty much expected considering she is putting EVERYTHING into her mouth these days. I suck a bit on her cheek, her lip, her finger...where ever so she gets a bit used to it. Then it's showtime. I have to hold her head since she really doesn't like having her nose sucked. I don't really think any kid does. You would not believe the amount of snot that comes out. Seriously, crazy amounts. I haven't taken a picture of it yet, but I am pretty sure you wouldn't want to see that. :)

So, if you have a little one that is suffering from the sniffles, I would suggest the nose sucker...and the essential oil mix from NOH. If you get the nose sucker, let me know what you think of it. :)

  1. First, thanks for the lovely shout out to NOH. You rock! :)

Second, I have heard about this thing and I was concerned to say the least. It hooks up to your vacuum cleaner??? What if you turn up the suction too high? Is this thing fool proof? Mack seriously hates those nose sucker things too and I don't even try to use it anymore. I was appalled when someone told me about a mutual friend that got this thing. But now I'm wondering if I should have given it a bit more consideration...

  2. I was worried about the intensity of the suction too, but I tried it on myself at full throttle, so to speak, and it isn't bad at all...I really hardly felt it. I only put the vacuum on half intensity when I did it to Amelia. Seriously, you would not believe the amount of snot that comes out. It is extremely fool proof. Our nose sucker thing didn't really work well, so I was desperate. I tried it out on Amelia first (using the one from Markus' cousin) and it was wonderful, so I ran to the Apotheke to get one. Amelia doesn't like it and cries when I use it, but right afterward, she's like, "wait a sec...I can breathe...maybe it isn't so bad." But then when I get it out again, and use it again, she doesn't like it, but afterward is cool with it. I let her play with the sucker for a bit afterward so she isn't too traumatized by the thing. I was a bit squeamish when I first heard that his cousin was using it, but then I tried it and I am now a believer.

  3. Oh, and I used it last night before we went to bed (and then used some nose drops) and she slept from 11:15 until 4:45...which she hasn't done in a week or so. This thing is my new best friend.

  4. Jentry,

You don't know me; forgive me for barging into your post; but you mentioned in a December Mama's Worldwide post that you have 2 VS nursing bras that you're not using. Has anyone taken you up on your offer? If not, I would like to. :)
